Amy, I see what you’re saying – my vote would be having the image on the left, so as not to spoil the ‘surprise’.

That said, if you want to avoid having more text before it (i.e. having the image as soon as possible after the reveal text) could you add a blank page, frontispiece, dedication or introduction at the start of the book, to push everything ‘back’ a page?

Alternatively, play with the margins, header & footer and maybe even font size to ‘nudge’ the text you’re worried about just a little further – i.e. having less space on each page. But this would adjust your design, so might not appeal.

Can I make my 12 X 12 into another smaller book?

+1 for me – as many others have stated, even a change within the same ‘aspect ratio’ would be ideal. Some people won’t pay for the full size landscape, but might buy it in the smaller size. It’d be great if I could maintain one ‘master’ book and allow them to choose sizes at checkout.
