Blurb Australia - Buyer Beware - Same Print Press as Snapfish?
Book Printing

I think you’ll find that all Blurb books are printed by outside companies.

I’m not sure what you’re implying by "palming off" to some other company, but Blurb uses contract printers everywhere, including the U.S.

number of pages
Tips and Tricks

Your page count will need to be either 132 or 134, 133 being an uneven number.  If you don’t want to add any content, you can perhaps include a blank page as the last one to get it to 134.

The issue has to do with sheets of paper.  When you include a page, it has to include both sides of the sheet, meaning page count has to go 2, 4, 6, 8 10, etc.

Change is coming to the forums
General Interest

I just took my first look at Yahoo Answers in response to the announcement.

I find it a bit challenging to think that format represents an improvement.

Why does Blurb persist in trying to reinvent the wheel when there are multiple proven forum software choices available.

Total ink load?
Book Design and Imaging

I don’t know if this is helpful or not, or applicable in the Blurb sense,  but it’s an extensive article on dealing with blacks.

Why an 18 mm spine on a 7 mm book?
Book Printing

Based on the photos you have included, as a long time Blurb fan and user, It’s disappointing to see the workmanship fall to this low level.  I wonder what’s going on at Blurb.

Printing school yearbook - how to ensure it turns out
Book Printing

I don’t know how much flexibility you might have on time, but ordering a test book is very worthwhile.  I’ve done a number of books with Blurb and there is always things that need correcting or improving after my first test copy.  And, that’s with 2 additional people carefully proofing them

If you possibly can, make a test copy.

More glossy cover - Can I order that?
Book Design and Imaging

Per, are you referring to the Image Wrap or the Dust Jacket hard cover?   I’ve done 6 books with the Dust Jacket and it’s always been very glossy.

I’ve never seen an Image Wrap first hand, but the posts I’ve read on here would indicate it’s more toward dull.

SPAM ON FORUMS
General Interest

It seems Blurb needs some sort of CAPTCHA device so the robots that post the spam can’t establish an account.  Other forums have fixed the issue.

Ridiculous book printing quality!
Book Design and Imaging

Posting the same thing in more than one section is against the rules!

No one on this forum can help you.  If you have emailed Blurb with your issue, only they can help you.  This forum is made up of users just like yourself, not Blurb employees.

Since you have an incident number, Blurb must have your issue in hand by now.

Be aware that it is now the weekend in the U.S. and there may or may not be someone there before Monday morning.

That will never happen.  It’s impossible technically.

What could possibly happen at some point in the future would be that you could re-upload a corrected copy without having to order one within 15 days.

That workflow seems rather bizzare to me.  Why would you want to blame Blurb for your results?

Old Family Photos
Book Printing

I’ve made made two books of old family b & W photos , one 11×13 and the other 8 × 10.  When I started I knew little about scanning or printing.  I don’t even remember the scanning demensions.  I then worked on them with Photoshop to "clean them up".   I used the standard paper.

End results were spectacular.

I would suggest you relax, order 1 copy of the complete book, go through it carefully as there will be mistakes for sure.  Correct any photos in photo manipulation software such as Photoshop, Serif PhotoPlus or something similiar.

The most important part is ordering only 1 book and plan on making changes.

Book Tax
Ordering and Shipping

I have to echo what Tony posted.  Why do people blame Blurb for the taxes their own government levies on them.  Why don’t they take it up with their own politicians instead.

I have a feeling that being an international supplier, Blurb has a very difficult time keeping up with all of the shipping and tax issues that exist when selling in the various juridictions.

Don't order books until Blurb gives answers
Book Design and Imaging

I would suggest that you should do what is best for you regarding ordering books, but don’t try to tell the rest of us what we should do.

I have done 6 separate books with Blurb and the colors have been exceptional in every one of them.  I’ll go right on ordering, thank you.  I don’t need any answers.

Does Blurb print only books?
Ordering and Shipping

I’m pretty sure Blurb doesn’t make prints as you are considering.

I might suggest you ask your question over at the Large Format Photography forum.  Those guys can be pretty fussy about quality, so I think the advice you would get would be worthwhile.

The Large Format forum is where I first lerned about Blurb, as some of the members were having a group book done.  Since learning about it there, I’ve done five Blurb 11 × 13 books and I’m about ready to send in the sixth.

Just ordered 13x11 with ProLine Uncoated, 160-pages...
Book Printing

Really nicely done.  Great layout rhythm.  You did some fine on location "memories" photos that made the book go together for it’s purpsoe very well.

There were certainly visits to all the right places.
