Upgrading old photos...is it possible?
Tips and Tricks

Now that I have discovered BookSmart, I set my digital camera so that all my photos are taken at the highest possible resolution. Unfortunately, before that I used a lower resolution so that I could easily send my pictures by email and I have hundreds and hundreds of photos that are 100 kb or even lower.

Of course this results in postage stamp size pictures in my books which are really unsatisfactory. Is there some method of making these jpegs useable in BookSmart in a larger size?

Name of book keeps changing. Why?
Tips and Tricks

When I load up Booksmart, the book selection menu sometimes shows the latest book I am working on as Untitled2 and sometimes with the title I assigned to it. It doesn’t seem to matter as far as the content goes. Everything is where I left it when I quit working after the last session. Its just a bit unnerving to see the title gone and I hold my breath when I click on Untitled2 until I see the familiar material appear.

I have renamed the Untitled2 version with the correct name several times but it doesnt seem to matter. It still comes up as a coin toss which title appears on the Start menu.

Any comments, suggestions, etc?

Patch for new version of BookSmart
BookSmart

Hi! I’m back. All the pictures finally loaded up and I can work with my book in progress. Maybe its my imagination but I do think that the layout is brighter, sharper and better proportioned than before but slower to react to changes I want to make. I had to review each page because some text no longer fit in the boxes they were in and some photos shifted position in multi-pictures pages. So that leads me to suggest two changes for the next up-date.

1. Horizontal and vertical guide lines. Can you create movable guide lines that we can use to position pictures in multi-photo pages?  Almost all graphic programs have guide lines which can be moved about the page to help align text and graphics so inserting the programming for this feature shouldn’t be a big problem (easy for me to say, I know). This would be a HUGE help in making pages look symmetrical and professional. "Snap to" guide lines would be ideal but any type of grid we could overlay on a page to align images would be great.

2.  Can we get pages in which the user can adjust the size of the text box and the image boxes? The ability to resize the text and image boxes would be very useful. Sometimes the pre-set pages just don’t work out for the desired page purpose.

Patch for new version of BookSmart
BookSmart

Well, against my better judgement, I downloaded the new patch for Booksmart. I usually wait quite a while before I d/l new versions of software because, frankly, I don’t want to be an unpaid beta tester. However I am really enjoying Booksmart and was hoping against hope that your new version would be faster and easier to use.

Frankly, I don’t know if it is easier to use because I am still waiting for all the pictures in the book I am working on to load.  It is taking forever.  Just a moment, let me check to see if they are all loaded up yet….....  No, only about 2/3 of the 80 pages have loaded up so far. Eight minutes and waiting.

You need to fix this problem pronto!

Updated Book Preview
Web Features

Can this Book Preview feature be used before the book is actually ordered and printed? In other words, can I use it during the book creation process?

Where are the images stored?
BookSmart

I am working on my third Blurb book now and am very pleased with the results on my first two. Of course I look forward to Blurb patching their software so there is less lag in moving images around and better flexibility in handling text but all in all, this has been a very positive experience for me.

I long ago moved all my jpegs, mp3s, etc to an external hard drive to avoid slowing my PC down with a huge stock of photos and music which would cause lag in my /C drive.

However, now that I am obsessed with Blurb, I find that I am moving a "ton" of jpegs duplicates back onto my hard drive from the external drive where I stored them.

Can anyone suggest a simple way to move all my old books onto my external hard drive? I guess the kludge method would be to download Blurb to my external drive and then simply copy all my books to that external drive.

Is there an easier way to move just the library of books to my external drive and then just pull them back into my PC when I want to redo or edit old books?
