Why am I getting low resolution warning?
PDF to Book

I was checking the resolution on Photoshop,  It’s the first time I’m using the InDesign and I didn’t know this option…

Just had a look now and it says "Actual PPI : 300  Effective PPI: 72 " and for the other image "Actual PPI:300 Effective PPI 125"

Is that what it may causing ?  One of the files is  8.5 mega!

Thanks…

Why am I getting low resolution warning?
PDF to Book

I’ve done a million of changes on my cover book and I’m still getting the low resolution on my book cover.

I’ve checked the only two images I have for the book cover (back and cover) and they’re 300DPI, unless is something to do with the texts I’ve made in Adobe InDesign?

Thanks…

Black & White Images on PDF to Book
PDF to Book

Thank you very much for your response Robin…

I’ve also came across with this : http://www.blurb.com/guides/color_management/prep_bw_pdf and I’ll decide which one to use by doing some tests.

All my B&W images are in grayscale format, do I have to convert to RGB prior to CMYK or is it possible to convert straight to CMYK?

Regards

Black & White Images on PDF to Book
PDF to Book

Hi,

This is not my first book with Blurb but it will be the first using PDF to Book with Adobe Indesign. The wll be a mix of colour and B&W photographs and I understand that for colour images, CMYK is the profile to use (PSD format 300 DPI).

My question is what is the profile for B&W pictures? I really want to avoid those horrible colour casts…

Many thanks

72dpi... recieved from "Professional" photographer
Book Design and Imaging

Sorry but when you say  "rights" to all of our pictures for personal use" you mean the photographer is the owner of the pictures ? If so,  he sent you the pictures in low resolution files on purpose, in that way no one apart from him will be able to do a decent print .

Help Creating a Template with Blurb Layout Tool
Book Design and Imaging

Hi,

I’m on the process of doing my second book (square format) and this time I want my pictures centered with the pagination on the left/right of the page. The Blurb layouts won’t do this so I’m about to create my own template. Using the Blurb layout editor I’ll create a container for my images with 13.37X13.37 cm. What I’m a bit confused is when the whole area is selected the size of the page is 17.46X17.5 cm, why this difference ? Secondly, since I want my pictures centered I was wondering If I have to move my pictures slightly to the left/right because of the gutter and I if have to do this, how much cm ? I though about 0.5cm but not entire sure…

Many thanks !

Printed book adjustments help !
Book Design and Imaging

Hi Lee,  Thanks for your help…

Looks like I have to "oversharpen" the pictures in order to get the desired quality. Now, regarding the dots these are printing dots, as I followed the guidelines given (300 DPI 2067 megapixels minimum for square 7X7 book ) i wasn’t expecting too see those dots too viisible ( again, not that is too much but comparing to other books is a bit more…) I know that thee’s a B3 process but not everyone can use it… i was thinking to make the prints bigger, something like 3000 megapixels or higher… any other suggestions ?

Thanks !

Printed book adjustments help !
Book Design and Imaging

Hi all !

This is my first post as I’ve just received my first copy and I’m quite excited with the results. For sure loads more will come…

As is my first one, I’d like to make some small changes and hope someone with more experience can help me.

First, I think the pictures aren’t as sharp as is in my computer screen and you can see the dots more clearly than other books (not that is too visible but I’m a bit picky…). Is there anything I can do to overcome that ?

Second, if I want to make changes, as far as I understood I have to delete this book first and then upload again with the new adjustments , am I correct ?

Thanks !!
