Image quality/resolution in booksmart, zooming in
BookSmart

That is a huuuge relief. Much obliged to you sir!

Pity there isn’t a little notification built into booksmart to advice users and avoid potential heart attacks!

I was going mad trying to figure it out. 12m images from canon raw looking more like enlarged thumbnails!

Lovely program but certainly has some niggles.

Anyway thanks again my man, you’ve taken a load off.

Image quality/resolution in booksmart, zooming in
BookSmart

My apologies if this is an old one, i have searched the forum and found relevant information and i would like to confirm my understanding…

The issue… I ordered a book a few days ago but when i went back into my booksmart file and zoomed to maximum on the cover images i found rather severe quality issues. I was convinced they weren’t there before as i was very diligent in checking my images. Of course in retrospect its hard to be 100% sure that i checked everything at fool zoom. Anyway, to cut a long story short i would appreciate some confirmation about the following points…

*To aid editing speed booksmart creates considerably lower quality versions of the images which it stores alongside the full size images.

*The quality of these ‘zoom files’ or image placeholders varies considerably depending on the details and settings of the original image (noise, iso, range etc).

*When you zoom to maximum in Edit or Preview mode you are essentially magnifying an already low res/quality proxy image so the degradation can appear considerable.

*Assuming the photographer/blurbarian(!) has taken full responsibility of image quality/size then the Zoom slider is really only meant for placement/positioning of the image on the page, not for checking image/print quality.

If the answers to these questions is ‘yes’ then i can exhale again and await my book!
