Best Font to use

Oh – and I don’t think I would have use for Comic – but then I suppose it depends what the book subject is.

In all the books I have written I have used Arial throughout (unless I have printed a quotation).

I agree with what you say about Serif fonts being the accepted norm, but to me they are somewhat dated, and I find Arial clean cut and ‘modern’ looking – and I don’t find any difficulty reading it. You’ve only got to look at this page…

Back cover question...
Book Design and Imaging

Just to confuse everyone I have had two books printed in the States. One has a barcode and the other doesn’t.

Does grey area around image come out as the background colour?
Book Design and Imaging

Check your original image carefully. The grey could be there; if it is use the crop tool to get a clean edge

Magenta/Green Color Cast

99 times out of 100 monitors have not been calibrated, and until you do, what you see is not necessarily what you get.

Yellow icon on bottom of small icon indicating that theres too much text
BookSmart

I think there’s more to it than that. I agree that if it shows in Preview mode it ususally prints fine, but it is a monumental pain in the but having to check continually. Another issue is that if I see an error in a text column, place the cursor next to the error (lets say I am removing a letter), click to activate the text frame and then hit delete, the cursor has usually gone somewhere else in the box and removed a different letter. You MUST activate the box first and Then place the cursor..

Picture page templates
BookSmart

How about templates that are movable on the page? I know they are professionally designed pages but quite often they are not exactly how I want them to be, and if I could drag a picture frame (and stretch and resize it come to that) and also the text frames it would make everything amazingly versatile.

Square book layout - 'split horizontally, full bleed' is there, but no ...
BookSmart

If you have Photoshop, set up a page as you want it to be, save as a jpeg at 300 dpi and import that. Works for me.

Please help this newbie old-timer
Tips and Tricks

Can I also add that you should never work on your original photograph. Import the pic to Photoshop and duplicate, then work on the duplicate and when you are happy rename it and save it. If you do all the work and save it as a JPEG you should have no problem, but do the all work BEFORE you save. If you do need to start again, then you have only ruined a copy and not the original.
