For the record, I want to say that the first copy of my 4th book, "The Contemplative Nude," just came in the mail. It’s beautiful and glorious. Thus, my frustration that at present I can’t use the booksmart software at all, due to its extreme bugginess or whatever the problem is. I’ve got (at least) another 3 or 4 books in me, and will produce them if and when the problem is solved. Any staff listening?

I’m back – me, the birthday boy + 1 who started this thread: I installed 1.9 and there’s no improvement (still extremely slow). In fact, it’s all buggy. My font sizes move up and down on their own, and do not respond to multiple corrections. The page thumbnails (mostly images) along the bottom have grown to 3 or 4 times their normal size, leaving little room at the top to edit or preview my book. It’s a mess, and I simply can’t proceed working on the book. I’ve done three previous books, with relatively little problem. Now I can’t do a thing. I have been communicating with tech support, and they try to help (sincere, hard-working bunch that they are) but to no avail. Mostly lately, I’m told to check my computer’s innate capacities (memory, speed, etc.) and there’s no problem there (pretty much state of the art). So, now I’m told, "we’re at an impasse." An impasse? I hope that simply giving up isn’t really an option. This is all beyond frustrating. I was about to announce my first four books (photographic images) to my shiny new emailing list (spent some days on it) in time to perhaps sell some books before Christmas, and now everything’s ground to a halt. I guess I’ll go wash some dishes.

newbie ?....my images are black in preview mode +edit mode

Are you dealing with B&W images? If so, I had the same problem at one point and learned that although my images are iin greyscale, they should be uploaded as RGBs. So, at the end of whatever image editing you do, do the following (In Photoshop): Image: Mode: RGB color. That solved it for me. That doesn’t add color to the image, just makes it somehow "acceptable" for uploading.

I’m nearing completion of my fourth book (photographic images), with no previous major problems. Just in the last few days, however, the speed of operations in booksmart have slowed to virtual inaction. (Examples: 1) the program takes forever to load, 2) type a comma, wait a full 15 seconds or more, comma reluctantly agrees to make an appearance.). I’ve seen other complaints of extreme slowness in forums. Does anyone know what is happening? Nothing else in my operating environment has changed (I use Mac OS X 10.4.10 and Booksmart version 1.8.1). It’s my birthday and I think I’m going to cry. Can anyone help?
