Photography.Book.Now. Only one vote? It's not fair!
General Interest

Browsing through the 2000+ entries I am staggered by the sheer number of ultra-high-quality books and I am now experiencing sensory and aesthetic overload. I have never before seen so many outstanding photography books in one place at any one time.

To select just one for my vote is too difficult. To choose from a shortlist of say, 50 is almost impossible.

If only there were more votes…

anyone sold any books?
General Interest

I think Tony’s right in saying that it’s up to the author to produce a marketing campaign to sell a book. I believe Blurb is a site primarily for book-makers rather than book-buyers or readers.

Since my book became a ‘Staff Pick’ it’s had a huge number of hits/views, but most of my sales have come from people I know: very very few sales have come from others. In this last week there have been over 800 hits (and rising!) without a single sale. Maybe no one liked it in the 15-page preview (although no one said so in the comments); I don’t see the book as expensive (I have only a tiny mark up/profit from each sale… Mmm…

just want to say....

I’d like to join you, Victor, in thanking Blurb staff for choosing my book as a ‘staff pick’.  It really does feel good.

Book commenting feature in the works. Tell us what you think.
Web Features

After my initial enthusiasm for the new comment feature I now believe most books on Blurb by unknown authors will remain commentless, as they were before the advent of the new feature, unless they get their friends and other known people to post a comment. Comments are like sales on Blurb in this case: you won’t get any (or at most, very very few) from unknown people, no matter how many hundreds view your book.

Do your text only books sell?
General Interest

I too am an unknown author, and I agree with you that Blurb seems primarily for photography books. How many text only books feature in Staff Picks? Very very few. I’ve only sold my memoir (mainly text, with some B&W photos) to those who know me, despite the large number of page visits. I’d also like to know what motivates unknown people to buy…

Very good idea. Anything is better than the silence that now prevails about almost every book on Blurb.
